HHH’s National Board Certified Teachers were asked to share their certification experience and the impact the experience had in their classrooms. As there are several HHH members who are currently going through the certification process themselves or who are contemplating participating in the future, teachers also shared some advice for those members.

The HHHTA is proud to share these stories with the HHH Community!

1.  What prompted you to go through the process to become a NBCT?

When I first heard about NBCT, I knew it was going to be a challenging but rewarding goal well worth pursuing.  As a teacher, I am always looking for ways to refine my “craft”.  I constantly look for interesting ways to engage my students, but learned through this process that I must always ask myself, “What is the impact on student learning?”

2. If you could give one piece of advice to someone going through the certification process, what would it be?

I would encourage anyone going through the certification process to read through the information NBCT provides on the Five Core Propositions and your requirements for your standards multiple times.  Go back to them as you are completing your writing pieces to make sure you have completely addressed the requirements with the proper evidence.  Most of all, think of the process as a journey and believe in yourself.
