HHH’s National Board Certified Teachers were asked to share their certification experience and the impact the experience had in their classrooms. As there are several HHH members who are currently going through the certification process themselves or who are contemplating participating in the future, teachers also shared some advice for those members.

The HHHTA is proud to share these stories with the HHH Community!

1.  What prompted you to go through the process to become a NBCT?

I am a lifelong learner.  I am constantly setting personal goals, seeking opportunities to improve, and challenging myself to achieve my personal goals. I felt that by completing the process of the NBCT, I would learn new teaching techniques to make a positive difference in the lives of my students.

2. How did the certification process impact your classroom (ie: increase in parental involvement, improved teaching techniques, becoming more reflective)?

The certification process made me reflect and analyze my current teaching methods on a higher level of understanding.  I found myself seeking new ways to increase student, parent and community member participation in learning activities.  Overall, I feel that the process challenged me in developing innovative ideas to effectively prepare my students to successfully enter the 21st Century global workplace.

3. If you could give one piece of advice to someone going through the certification process, what would it be?

The certification process is very challenging. Be positive, do your best and success will follow. Always remember:  “Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”  Brené Brown
