The Society of Chemical Industry is a 100 year old organization dedicated to recognizing technical achievement in applied chemistry and publicizing chemistry's unique contributions to modern life. In 2010, the SCI began The "SCI Scholars Program" in partnership with the American Chemical Society. Under this program, outstanding college sophomores and juniors in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering are identified and awarded summer internships at member companies' facilities. The organizations hope to encourage these outstanding students to consider careers in applied chemistry.

Because they believe a person's interest in science or chemistry often begins with a positive high school experience, they asked each Scholar to nominate an outstanding teacher who played a significant role in their choice of college major. One of this year's Scholars nominated Linda as such a teacher.

SCI and the American Chemical Society have recognized Linda for her role in inspiring students to pursue technical careers.
