I attended a mentorship meeting on November 15, 2017 in the boardroom at Central Office.  The meeting was run by Rick Keller and was well attended by nearly 20 new members to the Half Hollow Hills family this year.  Members were from different areas of the profession including classroom teachers, special area teachers, and support staff as well. Mr. Keller and the HHHTA meet monthly with the Mentors and Mentees to ensure our new members have a succcessful start to their careers in HHH.  During this month’s meeting with the mentees, Rick and I talked to the new members about their early successes and possible challenges they may see in their careers ahead.

Mentees shared many positive experiences they’ve had since September.  We also discussed different aspects of grading students and its challenges, as well as what to do under different disciplinary situations.  Other points of discussion were administration and observations, organization, time management and parent-teacher conferences.  With so many new members this year, it’s important that we all support each other.  This program has been running for several years and continues to change to prepare newcomers for our evolving roles in the classroom.
