On October 22, 2022, over 20 HHHTA members, family and friends came together on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to participate in the annual Run 4 Beigel 5K.

Scott J. Beigel grew up in Dix Hills and was a Half Hollow Hills alumni and died a HERO! He saved 31 students during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas School Massacre in Parkland, FL, where Scott was a Teacher and Cross-Country Coach. Coach Beigel’s Cross Country team organized a 5K in honor of their mentor. The 5K would adapt to the name Run 4 Beigel.

So on October 22nd in celebration of what would have been Scott Beigel’s 40th Birthday, the 5th annual Run 4 Beigel Long Island 5K run/walk took place at Heckscher State Park, supporting the Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund. The fund uses its proceeds to provide campership opportunities to children whose lives have been impacted by gun violence.

The day was filled with festivities and the race, there was a celebration with a BBQ and ice cream. It was a beautiful day for me celebrating Scott as part of the Half Hollow Hills Team where we were joined by Superintendent of Schools Patrick Harrigan.
