General Needs is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to serve Long Islands’ homeless veterans with dignity. The HHHTA  has been raising money to help our veterans for the past few years. Last year, we raised over $3000 which was used for winter boots and clothing. We set a goal for the same amount for this year and with the help of our members and HHH students, we reached our goal again this year! Each member that donated received a patriotic pen as a “Thank you” for their support.

At Otsego, students in second and third grade were very busy doing chores around the house to earn money for our veterans as well. The children earned quite a lot of money! In addition students all around the district, wrote thank you letters, cards and poems, as well as created original artwork for the veterans  to show their appreciation and thanks for everything they do and have done for our country. This is such a positive event for our students to participate in as it teaches them empathy and kindness to others that are less fortunate than themselves. We collected hundreds of letters from students in our Pre-K, elementary schools as well as students in both high schools, and middle schools. Thank you to all who participated in this worthwhile event.
