NY educators to feds: Don’t label schools based on test opt-outs | Newsday

 

State education leaders are urging Washington to scrap plans for labeling schools as subpar if more than 5 percent of students refuse to take Common Core standardized tests — a move they say would inflame an already heated situation.State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia, in her first comment on the school accountability plan issued last month by U.S. Education Secretary John B. King Jr., rejected it as “too narrow.”
